Ron and Helen Jean (Gillins) Simpkins.
We both graduated from MHS in 1960. We have been married for 45 years and have four children and are the proud grandparents of 14! We have lived here in the Reno, Nevada area for 36 years where Ron has his own CPA firm. We enjoy traveling and spending time together. We have been on the last three reunion committees for MHS. We love our old home town and are proud to say that we graduated from good old Milford High School.

Great job setting up the blog. I’m really enjoying the old photos, and now I’m motivated to finally begin scanning some of my old 35 mm slides from the early ’50s. Looking forward to seeing everyone again next year.
Best Regards,
Dean

The BLOG is BLOGTERRIFFIC! Keep it up. I don’t think those pix were in a R R car, more likely a Utah State Ex service traveling classroom. Grant Esplin Beaver Co Agt is in the front. AS there are some farmers there Leo Mayer, Barbara L. Mayer, Gene Mayer and Russell Mayer I suspect something to do with agriculture. Isn’t that Pat Williams on the front row? I tried to magnify the calendar on the back wall to get a date but didn’t have good enough eyes. Check with Russel Mayer he can probably give you a lead. Ron and I just celebrated our 55th anniversary,.proving that a Beaver Beaver and a Milford Tiger can successfully cohabitate! Love Gayle Gale

I first met Shirley when see was in the 6th grade and I was in the 7th grade. We continued our friendship throughout the next 6 years. On Sep 16, 1952 we married in Denver, CO and will celebrate our 57th wedding aniversary on Sep 16, 2009. We left Milford in the fall of 1960 and moved to Woodland, CA to find work and we still live in Woodland. We have 4 daughters and 1 son that have blessed us with 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Becoming parents is a wonderful experience, but being grand and great grand parents is the best and we take every opportunity to spoil them all. Ron and Helen you have done a wonderful job with the reunions and the Blog. Richard Fisher Class of 1952

I think the Atkin Hotel became the Horn Sliver Hotel when Gene Kirk bought it in 1943 or 44. My mom and dad ran it for Gene from Feb. 44 until 1948 for. It was during the war and they couldn’t find a home for us so they took the job. I was going in the 6th grade when we moved here. I had the best job in town. All beer and pop bottels were worth 2 cent each except 7up and they were worth 5 cents. With all the railroad and miners living thwere there were a few. I started working for Wynaught shell in the 7th grade. They treated me real good. I also had a window washing route at the stores on main street. I doubt we could ever find a better place to grow up. Great friends there.

Ron and Helen, you are doing a fantastic job. I moved to Salt Lake City in 2003. Harriet Cline Nielson and I were married in 2004. I have been very active in the movement to end chronic homelessness in Utah and nationally. I currently serve on several philanthropic, state, and county boards related to homelessness. I have received the following awards regarding my work as a volunteer executive for the Crusade for the Homeless Foundation: the Salt Lake County Visionary Leadership Award, the Volunteers of America Homeless Leadership Award, The Road Home Volunteer Fellow Award, The Utah Non-profit Association Spirit of Giving Award, and the University of Utah, Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Distinguished Alumnus Award. Harriet and I have traveled to 26 countries and 33 states in the last five years. Unfortunately we will miss the 2009 Grand Reunion – we will be on a cruise to Alaska. As you see, we are very busy.

My family moved to Bountiful in 1956 after my Freshman year at MHS, but I’ll always be “from Milford.” I met my husband at the University of Utah, and after we married we moved to New Jersey and then to Louisiana. I’m a mom, a grandma and a yoga teacher. I also spent many years tutoring for The Literacy Council. Two of the most memorable events in my life was first a trip to Cairo, Egypt to meet my husband’s family, and second living in our severely damaged home while we repaired it after Hurricane Rita struck in Sept. 2005. We won’t be in Utah for the reunion this year unless another hurricane blows us your way! Thanks to Ron and Helen and everyone who contributes to this great blog. I really enjoy it.

This is what I call a great place to remember old times. Under the supervision of Roy Firmage, I trained as projectionist for a month. I ran “The Thing.” Free movies, no pay.
In 1947 I believe, we moved to Milford and into the Horn Silver Hotel for our very first night. 2nd Floor.
Elmo Smith was my stepfather and my Mom was Ida. She worked as a cook and waitress at the Milford Cafe.
Elmo’s father, George, built and ran the Milford Livestock Exchange. By age 14 I would drive his stake truck full of livestock to Cedar City through the then narrow, washboard pass.
I’d love to see everybody, but my health isn’t too good anymore. Keep the blog and the reunions going….It’s GREAT!!!!!

Just a note to tell those of you who knew my husband, Alfred G. Baker, that he died May 26, 2010. He went to school in Milford with the class of 1946.
Funeral services were held in Provo, Utah where we had moved after retirement in 1988.Burial was in Green River, Wyoming where we had lived and raised our family.
Fred had many kind thoughts of his life and friends in Milford.

I was surprised to see the picture of Brad Weston’s birthday party. I remember playing “Red Rover” and wonder how we did it without ruining our party dresses. I’ve had fun looking at all the pictures. Wasn’t Milford a wonderful place to spend our youth?

To L. Delzeit re: Your Mother in Milford.
I was in your Moms grade in Milford, but, alas I remember the name & not the face. I spoke with Clark Grimshaw another Milford spawn because I recalled him talking to me about having been in touch with your Mom in Springfield?. He might be a good one locally to talk to & he said to give you his phone # if you are of a mind to call him. It’s 435 387 2783. He pal’d round with your uncle Lynne and remembered Terry too. Barry Bird sent in this question about Clerynth Larsen. She was a junior high teacher the year Barry graduated (1957). Can anyone help him?
“Do you remember Mrs. Larsen the elementary school teacher ?? I was wondering when she passed away and was she living in Milford at the time or at the Puffer lake lodge ??” Barry
