Miss Molly

Molly (Cheryl Elmer) was  one of the main attractions at the Downtown event on Saturday, she told her story about the fire that burned down Milford on May 21, 1891. It burned down her bakery, therefore she had cookies give away! She had a crowd around her listening to her story all morning, and the cookies were delicious!

We will also be posting pictures from Dennis Slinkerd and the owners of the Milford Hotel who so generously opened the Hotel up for us to enjoy. Bob Allen, our very own Mining expert, gave us an interesting history of mining in the area up on Library Hill, those who made the trek were rewarded with his stories and a little silver. (wrapped licorice.)

We finally have some Reunion pictures on the blog! If you look on the right side of the screen right below Flikr Photos you will see “Reunion Photo Album” under that is a “view all” in blue, click on it and it will take you to a Picasa photo album and you can then click on slideshow at the top or look at each one.  Each “view all” is a different album sorted by event. These are a combo of our pictures and Luceil’s pictures. We have started with the Friday afternoon registration at City Hall. At the top of the page under the red bar, we have an new page, Arden Fowles (Milford’s own Garrison Keillor)  prepared these questions and reflections for the Grand Reunion and everyone enjoyed them so much that we thought we would add them to our Blog. DVD Update

The “MHS Grand Reunion 2009” last week was considered a success and if you missed it, we are sorry. We had a great attendance of 290 alumni and guests, there were many hugs, laughter and great stories about remember when. The Friday Sign-in had the City Hall bursting with people looking at old pictures, finding ancestors on the 1910 Census and finding landmarks on the old panoramic picture of Milford.  We will be posting pictures on the blog as soon we get them organized.

We had a DVD “Milford, Our Home Town, A Sentimental Journey” for sale by the Alumni Committee to offset the cost of the gathering. It is all new with 500 pictures of Milford people, parades and neighborhoods. We sold out all that we had taken with us. Reunion Update!

The Grand Reunion will be here in just 12 days, the summer has flown by. We are happy to report that the response has been terrific with over 250 registered! The committee is ready and looking forward to a good time in Milford.

Our Main Street event looks to be really fun, we have gotten permission to close off the street for the morning so we can walk and reminisce about how our town used to look at different times during the years. We are very excited about it. Lots of fun expected for the week end.

We have another DVD “Milford, Our Home Town, A Sentimental Journey” It features over 500 hundred photos and 10 songs. The Reunion Committee will be selling them for $15.00 with the proceeds going to the Milford High School Alumni Coffers.

Reunion News

Wow, only a few months to go before we meet again at the 2009 “Grand Reunion” We are in the process of printing, stuffing envelopes and doing address labels to send out the final itinerary and reservation details, you should receive them in the next few weeks if you graduated before 1969! The Reunion committee has some fun things planned and we are looking forward to seeing all of you!

Attention Class of ’59

Just want to throw around a few suggestions for our big 50th anniversary.  Anyone with an idea for something that might set us apart from the rest of the Reunion Group (not that we aren’t already), please comment.

 We talked to Gina Mayer about doing some shirts for us (she is the gal that does all of the shirts for the Milford Tigers and Cody Wright and the  4th of July shirts for the UP club, etc.).  She thought we could come up with some neat ideas for either T-shirts or Golf shirts.  The price of the shirts, of course, would depend on how many we ordered – the more shirts, the cheaper the price.  The T-shirts would probably be in the $l0 to $15 dollar price range and the golf shirts would be more like $25 to $35.  It isn’t necessary that everyone order a shirt.  It is your choice.  Please let us know if you are interested in shirts, or if you have a better idea, don’t hesitate contacting me or Kaye Baxter (or comment on the blog.) Can’t wait to see all of you.  Hope we have a good turn out from the great  CLASS OF 1959.

Reunion News

Alumni and friends,
Labor Day weekend 2009 has been slated for the next Milford High School Grand Reunion following the consensus of the 2006 questionnaire for a three year interval between reunions. This will include classes from 1915-1969. Mark your calendars!!
We are happy to announce that Ken and Cheryl (Wunderlich) Elmer (MHS 64/65) have agreed to co-chair with us. They helped mastermind the popular Frisco tour at the last reunion and have plans to again revisit Milford*s early years. We look forward to working with our new committee to bring you an excellent event.
Start searching for those old photos of Milford. We would like to make a video similar to the last reunion*s MHS video, but now with emphasis on pictures of the town, your home, your old car, you and your friends or any old picture memories. We grew up in a wonderful time and place, and what fun to record a history to show our children and their children–when life seemed simpler. You can email your photos, make copies for mailing or even mail us the original. We promise to mail them right back to you. We have included a few of the great pictures that we have collected, and we would love anything you may have.
